What a family photoshoot in Paris looks like

Family photos do not have to mean everyone standing still for an hour. We mix simple group portraits with walking, playing and time together. Your photographer helps you get into position when needed, then gives you room to be yourselves. If a child needs a break, we pause.

You might be traveling with a baby, taking a mother-and-daughter trip or bringing three generations together. Tell us who is coming and what their day usually looks like. We plan the time and walking distance around your family, including naps, meals and anyone who needs an easier route.

Every session is private, with one photographer. Most families choose one hour with small children and ninety minutes or two hours with older ones; every length is on one page.

Why families book a photoshoot in Paris

Everyone together. A family trip is a chance for a photograph that includes the people who are usually behind the camera.

The children as they are now. A gap-toothed smile, a favorite toy or the way they still reach for your hand.

Parents in the picture too. You can put the phone away and spend the session with your children.

Time with grandparents. We make room for the whole family and for smaller groups, including grandparents with their grandchildren.

Five frames from one family

All five come from one family session by the Seine.

How long should a family photoshoot in Paris be?

Think about the number of people, how far you want to walk and whether the children will need breaks. We can help you choose a length that fits your family.

Your familySession lengthBest time of dayWhat suits you best
Babies and toddlers1 hourMorning, right after breakfastOne walkable pocket, flat ground, a bench within reach
Children aged 5 to 121 to 2 hoursEarly morning or late afternoonTwo nearby spots with room to run between them
Teenagers2 hoursThe golden hour before sunsetTwo or three settings, plus solo portraits for each of them
Three generations2 hoursLate morningLevel paths, short distances, plenty of places to sit
Two families with cousins3 hoursMorningOpen space, several backdrops, time for every grouping

A one-hour session includes 50 edited photos; ninety minutes includes 75, two hours 100 and three hours 150.

Choosing the right corner of Paris for your family

If you want the Eiffel Tower in your family photos, we can plan around that. You can also choose a garden, a courtyard or a walk by the river. The right route depends on how far everyone is comfortable walking and whether you are bringing a stroller.

Gardens. The Tuileries and Luxembourg Garden offer paths, greenery and space for a slower walk. We plan the session around opening hours. See our Tuileries Garden guide.

Bridges and the river. A good option for walking photos and portraits with Paris in the background.

The old neighborhoods. Small streets and café fronts give the photos a different feel. We keep the walking distance in mind, especially with a stroller.

Courtyards and colonnades. Useful for a more architectural backdrop, with several photo angles close together.

Strollers, stairs and grandparents

Let us know if anyone uses a stroller, cane or wheelchair, or would prefer to avoid stairs. We choose the route with that in mind and discuss any steps or uneven surfaces before the day.

We can keep to a smaller area and allow time to sit down between photos. Tell us which view matters most, and we will suggest a practical way to include it.

What to wear for a family photoshoot in Paris

Choose a few colors that work together, then let each person wear something they like. Matching outfits are optional.

Easy starting points are cream and navy, camel and white, or a mix of soft blues and greens. Choose clothes that fit comfortably and shoes everyone has worn before.

Try to avoid anything that needs constant adjusting, large logos that distract from faces, and clothes your child finds scratchy or uncomfortable.

Start with one outfit you love and build the others around it. For more examples, see what to wear for a Paris photoshoot. If you would like a gown for some of the photos, browse our dress rental collection.

When three generations travel together

With several generations together, a short list of group photos helps everyone know when they are needed. We agree on the important combinations beforehand and adapt the order to the family on the day.

  • Everyone together, usually at the start of the session.
  • Grandparents with their grandchildren.
  • Grandparents on their own or together.
  • Each household, followed by the cousins together.
  • Adult siblings and any other combinations you would like.

It helps to have one relative who knows everyone gather people for the group photos.

A gift certificate for a family photoshoot

A family photoshoot in Paris can also be given as a gift certificate. It suits a milestone birthday, an anniversary or a reunion that is still being planned.

Where to photograph kids in Paris

Children are happiest where they can run, so we plan short stops with space around them: the lawns of the Champ de Mars below the Eiffel Tower, the carousel and paths of the Jardin du Luxembourg, the Tuileries with its pond and chairs, and the quiet streets of the Île Saint-Louis. Each stop takes ten minutes, then we move on before anyone gets bored.

Maternity photoshoot in Paris

Expecting a baby during your Paris trip? We can keep the walk short and plan time to rest. Visit our maternity photoshoot page for ideas on outfits, locations and including your partner or children.

Paris family photographer: questions

Where should we have our family photos taken?

The Eiffel Tower, a garden or a riverside walk can all work. We choose the route around your family’s preferences, the children’s ages and how far everyone can comfortably walk.

What is the best time of day?

Morning often works well at busy locations, but your children’s routine matters too. We suggest a time for your dates that takes meals, naps and the light into account.

Will it work if our children will not sit still?

Yes. We use short activities and walking photos alongside a few simple group portraits. If someone needs a snack or a break, we pause.

How many photos will we receive, and when?

You receive 50 edited photos for one hour, 75 for ninety minutes, 100 for two hours or 150 for three hours, in an online gallery within one week. Express editing in 24 to 48 hours is available as an extra.

Can you photograph a large family or three generations?

Yes. Tell us how many people are coming and which group photos you want. We usually suggest at least two hours for a larger family, allowing time for the different groups and breaks.

Do you photograph birthdays and anniversaries?

Yes. Tell us what you are celebrating and any photos you particularly want, so we can include them in the plan.
